Dr. Brett Abarbanel is the Director of Research – International Gaming Institute at the University of Nevada, with a joint appointment at the UCLA Gambling Studies Program. Dr. Abarbanel’s research covers Internet gambling policy and behavior, esports and gambling, operations and technology use, and responsible gambling and community relations. Dr. Abarbanel is the co-executive editor of the UNLV Gaming Research & Review Journal and editorial board member at International Gambling Studies and Harvard’s Division on Addiction’s Brief Addiction Science Information Source. Dr. Abarbanel serves on the International Advisory Panel for Singapore’s National Council on Problem Gambling; and she is a founding director of the Nevada Esports Alliance, which promotes development of best practices at the intersection of the esports and regulated gambling industries.
Dr. Abarbanel was named to the 2016 Global Gaming Business 40 Under 40 and received the Global Gaming Expo and The Innovation Group 2015 Emerging Leader Award. She completed her B.S. in Statistics at Brown University and M.S. and Ph.D. at University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
As an official of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC), Danny Wang oversaw the legal research to establish regulatory oversight and implementation methods by agencies. He directed one of the biggest full-scale legal research projects at the MOTC, regarding Taiwan’s casino gaming policy and control, serving as the main government liaison in multidisciplinary discussions and coordination with over 20 government agencies on varying issues such as taxes, economic development, education, public health, and others.
After he left government, Danny effectively developed and implemented the overall strategy for passing the first referendum in Taiwan, a major milestone considering the cultural and socio-political implications of reversing a long-standing ban. This opportunity allowed him to work with local governments, communities, scholars, industry groups and others interested in seeing this initiative pass.
In recent years, Danny has expanded his work to other focus areas, namely community and economic development initiatives. In addition to his continual services in the gaming industry, his work now includes those involving technology, medical, organic agriculture, religion, nonprofit strategy, renewable energy, and other private client services.
Danny received his JD degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Boyd School of Law, and his MPA degree from the University of North Carolina MPA@UNC program, with a focus on economic development. He double-majored in political science and economics at the University of Rochester, and has a minor in Japanese culture. He also has received certifications for hotel administration leadership training and casino gaming operations.

Mr. Geaspar Byrne is based in Hong Kong and is leading Lottoland’s expansion in Asia with a focus on B2B. For the five years before joining Lottoland, Mr. Byrne was responsible for Corporate Development and IR at AGTech, a Hong Kong-listed, Alibaba-owned China lottery and gaming technology provider. Prior to his move to Asia, Mr. Byrne was a Director with Deutsche Bank in London and New York where he spent twelve years as a M&A and capital raising specialist for clients in the Global Gaming, Lodging, Travel, Tourism and Leisure industries.
Dr. George Lin is the Founder and Managing Partner of Lin & Partners, specializing in banking, M&A, securities, and gaming law matters. With more than 30-year practice experience, Dr. Lin’s practice has covered a full range of equity market transactions, including hostile and friendly acquisitions of public companies, tender offers, and share offerings. Over the years he has represented numerous local and multinational financial service firms in the acquisition or disposal of business operations in Taiwan and overseas.
In gaming sector, Dr. Lin constantly advises clients in both public and private sectors on policymaking and regulatory matters with respect to casino-based integrated resort, sports betting, lottery, horseracing, online gambling, and new type of gaming activities. Hai Ng, a world recognized leader in esports, is co-founder of Spawn Point, a strategic advisory firm that operates at the intersection of gaming and esports by providing those in esports insights into the highly regulated casino industry, while at the same time explaining the world, language and mindset of esports gamers and developers to casinos. Hai knows how to interact with game players and he has a complete understanding of the thinking of game developers who aren’t obligated to follow the rigid rules of regulated casinos and face little of the scrutiny casinos face from regulators. He routinely speaks publicly about esports to the gaming industry and collaborates with the Nevada Esports Alliance, UNLV’s International Gaming Institute, and Esports Integrity Coalition on emerging esports issues. This past year, Hai spoke at many conferences introducing audiences to the burgeoning world of esports and its tremendous growth potential. Hai’s focus is to improve understanding and catalyze business opportunities between the esports and gaming industries globally, at conferences including G2E and G2E Asia, iGA in Macau, and The Esports Conference in Sydney. Hai also works with governments and gaming regulatory bodies on how esports play a significant role in developing new business opportunities. With more than three decades of experience in technology, and more than a decade in gaming, Hai has developed proprietary methods that bring new, valuable, long-term customers through the door. He has created structures, rules and has organized specific events and games to attract and retain millennials, the customers that will eat, drink and gamble at your property. He is a regular contributor to iGaming Business, and section editor of iGaming Business North America’s Fantasy and Esports Section. He is also a co-founder and owner of Chaos Theory, Singapore’s first professional esports team.
An expert technologist, Hai is also co-founding partner at Neomancer, a technology strategy and management group. He is credited with designing and orchestrating the first AR demo on the floor of the NYSE and the first AR tool deployed on the floor of NYMEX. Over the last several years, he has been a technology ambassador for Open-Source VR, showcasing the opportunities that VR can bring to the motion picture and iGaming industries.
Under his leadership at Neomancer, the company forged a development relationship with Continent 8 Technologies that led to Hai’s appointment as CIO. During his tenure, Hai and his team helped the company expand into Asia.
Harmen has a long-standing track record in regulated gaming sectors across emerging markets. Today his company Dynamic Partners is focused on Global Chain. Global Chain is about networked trade and commerce of products across the i-Gaming and land-based sector. It’s to bring technological development and distribution together to come up with customized solutions to the many challenges and opportunities the gaming industry faces.
Harmen has worked in over 65 countries actively supplying gaming equipment, advising and developing the gaming business. Until recently Harmen was full-time SVP Strategic Markets for Inspired Gaming Group (INGG), Prior Harmen was founder and CEO of Octavian Global Technologies, a $90m casino technology supplier with over 35,000 networked slot machines and offices in 10+ countries. Before founding Octavian, Harmen partnered with the Gauselman Group to establish Avalon Casino Management, setting up the Playboy Casino in Rhodes amongst others.
Hayato began his career as an attorney in 1998 while belonging to the First Tokyo Bar Association. He joined Yamasaki and Partners in 1998 until 2000. In 2000, he joined Kasahara Law Office and become a partner in 2002. Using his vast experience abroad and language skills, took on numerous clients not just from Japan but the globe.
As Hayato has become a well-known trusted attorney in Japan, he established the Terai Hayato Law Office in 2005, and satisfied even more clients internationally.

Hunter Larsen runs the marketing team at Nitrogen Sports, where they are focused on innovating in an entirely new gaming space: Bitcoin. Through successive positions in banking and finance industries, Joseph has consolidated his expertise and experience in strategic planning, management and implementation of financial, electronic banking, Internet and mobile product services and systems in Asia. He has been an active keynote and industry speaker in FinTech n e-Payment conferences across Asia.
Pior to AsiaPay, Joseph took various management positions at Barings, Citibank N.A., Bank of America and Dah Sing Bank.
Joseph received his Bachelor of Science degree and Master of Economics degree from Monash University in Australia.
Josh Gardner is the CEO of Kung Fu Data, an ecommerce partner specializing in data analytics, brand control and business development inside China’s largest e-marketplaces.
A fluent Mandarin speaker and senior China strategist, Josh has audited hundreds of Tmall flagship stores for brand owners and is a recognized expert in channel conflict, partner selection and performance management in China. He’s an active member of Entrepreneurs Organization and a featured speaker at ChinaConnect, AdTech, NZTE, CCBC, ATO, SBR, IRCE, IRA and Luxury Society.
Tenaciously objective and data driven, Josh spends his days helping consumer brands navigate tough situations in China, bringing third-party transparency and accountability to all stakeholders. He recently relocated from Shanghai to Hong Kong with his lovely wife Kate, a school psychologist, and their two kids, Bennett and Elena.
Keith has been in the International Online Gambling sector for over 15 years. He filled senior roles within the online divisions of William Hill, UK Tote and Bodog Europe and, having spent time running bodog88 in the Philippines, set up kmigaming.com in 2011 to assist Operators, both Asian and European, with areas such as Licensing, Operational set up, Recruitment, Product & Marketing Strategy and Sponsorship. More recently, Keith has taken a number of shareholdings in niche industry businesses and non-gaming ventures and is regular attendee at most key European and Asian Gaming Conferences.
Kristin is Spark’s head of design, and is a service and user experience designer and early adopter of cryptocurrency. Kristin began his journey with Bitcoin in 2010, moving to Hong Kong in 2012 to pursue the above, founding the Bitcoin Hong Kong meetup group on arrival. Members of the community went on to found the Bitcoin Association of Hong Kong which continues to advocate for bitcoin adoption locally. Kristin works at the intersection of emerging markets and emerging technologies and uses design to found and build businesses and human systems in places that are unpleasant to do either.
Lars Lien is the CEO and co-founder of Luckbox, a pioneering and fully licensed esports betting platform preparing for launch in early 2019.
Lars formerly held operational roles with PokerStars and GosuGamers and Sony Online Entertainment. He has combined his wealth of experience in iGaming with his expertise in cryptocurrencies and passion for esports to help build Luckbox, a crowdsale-supported project with integrity, fairness and authenticity at its heart.
In August 2018 Luckbox became the first crypto-supported esports platform to be awarded a top-level gambling licence in the Isle of Man and he and his team are now in the final stages of product development with launch on the horizon.
For the past two decades, Mr. Lichun Hsiao has been working in the Gaming Industry. His experiences include online gaming integration and operation, as well as new business development. He provided consulting services to both Taiwan and China’s national betting organizations and has won several major bids.
From 2010 to 2015, as Vice President for Intradak in Beijing China, LiChun provided consultative services to national betting organizations and corporate accounts in China. Prospected for customers through referrals and networking. Qualified leads, negotiated with corporate customers, closed deals and managed accounts.
From January 2015 to 2017, as an Asian Managing Director, Mr. Hsiao helped BetConstruct to establish Asian offices and created an outstanding service team for platform providers. From January 2018 to April 2018, he worked as a director of Business Development Div. in SBTech, he cultivated excellent relationship with Asian gaming players.
Mr. Hsiao obtained his Master Degree of Business Administration from Simon Fraser University in Burnaby BC, Canada. Combining entrepreneurial spirit with business-management skill to drive gains in revenue, market share, and profit performance.

Mark Thomas, Co-Founder & CEO at ZenSports – Mark is a serial entrepreneur with experience founding tech startups and other businesses. Prior to co-founding ZenSports, he was the Co-Founder & CEO of Reesio, a VC and angel-backed startup within real estate technology that was acquired by Realtor.com in September 2015. Mark is passionate about blockchain and cryptocurrencies, and believes that betting is the best first use case of this technology.
Markus Nasholm is the CEO of Mitratech Interactive, the parent company for the Asian gaming platform and aggregator QTech Games and the Sweden-based gaming studio, Snowborn Games. Before joining Mitratech Markus worked in the gaming sector for a variety of companies including the casino and sports affiliate Catena Media PLC, Bet24.com as well as within telecom, media and financial services.
After completing a doctorate on Taiwanese ethnic politics and history, Martin spent four-and-a-half years as chief copy editor, editorialist and columnist at the Taipei Times newspaper. He later served as Taiwan correspondent for the English-language service of Kyodo News, Japan’s biggest news agency. Fluent in Chinese, Martin is based in Taipei and is a former president of the Taiwan Foreign Correspondents Club. He has spoken at or moderated gaming conferences and seminars in Macau, Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo, London and Taipei.
With over 20 years in the Leisure & Gaming industry and 13 of those years in Asia, Michael is one of the most experienced sportsbetting & lottery operators in the region. He is currently responsible for developing GVC Group’s international business in Asia and has held various senior management positions within the Group since initially joining Ladbrokes in 1995.
Michael Maerz is Managing Director Asia at Sportradar. Michael first joined the company in January 2015 as Managing Director Betting, where he was in charge of the development of Betradar’s two main product groups, Pre-Match Odds Services and Live Odds Services, as well as Esports.
He now oversees sales of Betradar’s betting products and services as well as Sportradar’s b2b and product development in North and SE Asia.
Prior to joining Sportradar, Michael held various positions with several online and retail gaming operators over a period of almost twenty years. Making history by accepting the first ever online bet with Intertops in 1996, Michael continued to grow the business as CEO of Intertops Antigua until 2005 when he moved back to Europe for a short stint as COO of Mybet before overseeing the acquisition and integration of Gamebookers as Director Sportsbetting at PartyGaming in 2006.
After the merger with bwin, Michael headed up the CRM and BI units of the combined entity as Director Sports Marketing before joining Liga Stavok as Director Sportsbetting in 2012.
Pablo Bermudez currently serves as the Operations Manager for Betcris Philippines. In this role, in partnership with publicly-listed technology company, DFNN Inc., Mr. Bermudez oversees the operations of Xchangebet, the first and only sports betting exchange license and facility in the Philippines. The Xchangebet product is offered in over 5,600 electronic gaming machines in over 150 locations countrywide. Mr. Bermudez has been active in the sports betting industry for about 13 years and has served in a number of different customer facing and operational roles in Costa Rica, Laos, and Cambodia. He has a great deal of experience adapting Western platforms to the Asian environment, specifically for the unique and dynamic Philippine market.
Richard joined Pinnacle in 2009 and started working in the Sportsbook department. As a Trader, he was part of the team that researched and created Pinnacle’s original eSports offerings, including contributing to the first-ever handicapped line.
Pinnacle is known by sports bettors for its leading odds and high limits. Now it’s becoming increasingly famous as the biggest operator in eSports betting worldwide. Pinnacle took the first recorded bet on eSports in 2010. Seven years later Pinnacle’s award-winning eSports Hub has recently passed the 10 million eSports bet milestone.
In March 2017, Richard transferred to the Business Analytics Team. Now based in Manila, he works on projects focused on expanding Pinnacle’s market reach, including as a domain expert for the Pinnacle Solution B2B eSports product.
Romuald Nguyen is a graduate of the European famous Centre de Droit et d’Economie du Sports of Limoges, France.
He also obtained a Master degree in Finance at ESSEC and a Diploma in Football Management at Institut de hautes études en administration publique of Lausanne, Switzerland.
Involved in the sport industry for almost 20 years, Romuald has experience and knowledge in both grassroots and international competitions.
Already President of a club of 300 members when he was 20 years old, he has then dedicated his professional career to the development of his knowledge on sports all around the world.
Romuald spent five years as CFO at the International American Football Federation before joining the French Football Football 10 years ago. There, he has led a wide range of projects (referees, football in schools, diversity, sustainability, lobbying, …) and wrote various articles about the sports industry.
As far as international competition is concerned, Romuald is a Venue Director at UEFA, directly involved in all institutional issues of the UEFA EURO 2016.
In February 2017, he has been appointed as Director of the French Football office in China.
Scott Burton is the CEO/co-founder of ESP (esportspools.com & esp.bet), an eSports startup focused on the fantasy and wagering space. Scott has been active in online wagering for a number of years. Prior to ESP he co-founded and launched a licensed peer-to-peer betting exchange Tedbets.com, winner of the ICE Totally Gaming Game to Watch Award in 2014. Later that year the focus shifted from traditional sports to eSports launching ESP as an eSports fantasy league. The site is aiming to be a leading destination for all types of engaging gameplay for eSports enthusiasts.
Shino Besson is based in Malta, where she has played a leading role in the growth of the Japanese market at Game Lounge Ltd for the past two years. Before joining Game Lounge, Shino worked as a Country Manager for Japan with Forex, where she gained knowledge about cryptocurrency and multiple payment providers. She then took up the position of Japanese Country Manager with the online casino operator Hero Gaming.
Shino’s working experiences in different industries, as well as her 10-year career as system consultant in Japan, have helped her move into the gaming affiliate sector well-equipped with extensive knowledge about user behaviour and preferences, which is essential to succeed in the highly-competitive affiliate sector. Shino currently manages the team behind japanesecasino.com, also known as Japacasi, a website which she started from scratch together with her team and which has grown into one of the strongest gaming affiliate sites for the Japanese market.
